Poke Root: The Natural Cure for Mastitis

I want to share my personal experience with poke root because it cured my milk fever in less than 48 hours. Every lactating mother should have this in her medicine bag.

Five days after I gave birth to my son Phoenix, I woke up in the middle of the night with swollen breasts and a severe fever. I never get sick so I wasn’t sure what to make of it – something felt really wrong. I could not stop shivering and every single joint in my body ached. It felt like I got hit by a truck.

The next day I started to feel slightly better. It was still extremely painful to breastfeed, but at least I could move around. I went to my moms for some TLC and posted up in front of her fire place. I covered myself in blankets, barely able move.

Luckily, we had an our one week check-up appointment with my midwife in Santa Cruz. I described my symptoms and she said it was a classic case of milk fever or a breast infection, clinical term: mastitis. She handed me a bottle of poke root and the instruction was to only take one to two drops, once a day in a glass of water until I felt better.

Poke Root Treatment and Results

I took one drop and by the end of the day I was more than 50% better. The pain and swelling in my breasts went down and my fever disappeared and by the next morning almost all my symptoms were gone. I took one more drop of poke root in 8 ounces of water. By the end of the second day, I felt like a new person.

My midwife told me if I had gone to the doctor, they would have prescribed antibiotics to take for a week. I am a believer.  Poke root is amazing remedy for mastitis.
